“If you look closely, there’s a dance in every tree, a song within every grassy field, and a story behind each ocean wave - countless gestures and poses within nature’s landscape; ever-changing, yet timeless - inspiring me to capture these moments through painting...”

Inspired by nature, I begin my paintings by documenting what I am drawn to in the outdoor world. I use my camera to capture a scenic view, or I will sketch “en plein air.” I am interested in the notion of time and how atmospheric conditions and elements within nature change over each passing season. I strive to create a patina in my work that is symbolic to the idea of time. To achieve this, I create many translucent layers in a painting that builds a sense of depth and a rich appearance to each piece.

I use a combination of acrylic, oil, silver and gold leaf. I also incorporate a handmade paste made from marble to create a subtle textural effect. The silver and gold leaf add a unique quality to the work in which light reflects off and emits a glow to the painting. As the light changes throughout the day, so does the painting. Along with the beautiful effect the leaf has visually, I also use the silver and gold leaf as symbolic elements of time.
