Painting, the process and the doing is a way for me as an artist to connect to the divine. Experiencing the natural environment of my subject specifically the Pacific Northwest weather and environment allows me to paint their essence. I find solace in immersing myself in the coastal wetlands and rain forests. Technically I am directly influenced by the Mystic Painters of the Pacific Northwest, painting in layers of oil glazes and velaturas. Because my work is painted in many layers each painting takes about two months to complete. I typically work on three paintings at any given time.
While my formal art education was beneficial to my work and career, by far, the best experiences have been collaborating and working with other working artists. My first solo exhibition was at eight years old and I have been exhibiting my work both in solo and group settings since that first showing. Along the way, it has been an honor to have my work collected in both private and public settings.
