Daphne, a 17 foot long sculpture now on view at the Reston Art Center, is Eric Standley's first mixed media installation piece. Daphne is inspired by the Greek myth of the nymph, who was turned into a tree to save her from the unwanted attentions of the god Apollo. The sculpture incorporates the always intricate, cut paper constructions by the artist, now integrated into the spine of a fallen tree, which Standley reclaimed from woods nearby his studio in Virginia. Daphne traveled to the Reston Art Center from the Taubman Museum of Art in Roanoke, VA,  where it was first exhibited. We look forward to Eric Standley's exhibition of new work at the gallery opening April 7th, 2017.
