Of a Kind - Step Inside Alyson Fox’s Glorious Home-Slash-Studio

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: “Our interior space is very minimal—a lot of breathing room for thinking,” says Alyson Fox, the jewelry designer and maker extraordinaire who moved into a home she and her husband built in Spicewood, Texas—35-ish miles from downtown Austin!—in November 2012. “It has a lot of nice, quiet details and compliments the landscape we see from every spot in the house. I love opening the door and running around outside with our puppy…and I love showering outside.” Get lost in the unreal space below. —alisha prakash

Small Batch Presents: Brooke Waggoner // Railyard Studios

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "Small Batch Presents is a video series that pairs unique brands with current and emerging artists. Whiskey isn't the only thing that can be considered small batch. It is anything made in limited quantities, for the true connoisseur, with fine attention to detail. We match up craftsmen that we believe are creating something unique with musicians that truly stand out and help artisans within a community support one another.

Episode 1 features singer/songwriter and Jack White bandmate, Brooke Waggoner; and Railyard Studios, a company making original furniture out of reclaimed railroad steel and ties." —Small Batch Presents

Jetset Times Featured Artist: Lisa Congdon, Artist & Illustrator | jetsettimes

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "When we first came across Lisa Congdon's work, it was love at first sight. We immediately fell for her typography of the travel quotes that we already knew and loved. Throw in her creative illustrations and a knack for mixing media, and you’ve got our new favorite artist. The way others write about their travels, or take amazing photographs, Lisa creates snapshots of her experiences based on what interests her..."— LENA KAZER

Makery Favorite: Angela Liguori — The Makery

by Ryan Salinetti

"One of our favorite and most inspiring craft supplies in the shop are the vintage wooden spools of colorful Italian cotton ribbon from Angela Liguori's line, Studio Carta. The amazing gold and silver elastic, cotton twine and vintage glassine bags come from her as well. And the awesome part is Angela had already heard of us the first time we called her to place an order!" —The Makery Blog

Dressing Federico Uribe

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "Sean Wildchild was commissioned by Artist Federico Uribe to create a stylish wardrobe which will complement his November 2013 Miami Exhibit. Wildchild invited me to capture the event of dressing Uribe at Wildchild's Studio. I took along my assistant Billy ENVY, and let the camera roll. Above is the experience; artist coming together to create and tell a story." — from Will Envy

Beth Dary, New Work

by Ryan Salinetti

Using a range of mediums, Beth Dary’s work is consistent in its sensitivity towards environments in transition.  Her focus on flux in natural spaces is mirrored in her choice of forms and materials, such as kinetic sculptures made of fabric, steel and glass pins to translucent drawings on handmade paper with egg tempera and beeswax.  Throughout her work, there is an emphasis on transformation and evolution, capturing a moment in time poised in a delicate balance between sustainability and decline.  Dary explores the liminal space between nature untouched by human intervention and the "new nature" we ourselves have created.

Pixels vs. Bubbles: Bradley Hart's Bubble Wrap Art » Saxoprint Blog UK

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "So a few weeks back, we took a look at The Human Printer, where humans replace ink-jet nozzles in putting pixels onto paper. And now we’ve come across a similar concept which is far more elaborate in its execution: manual bubble-wrap printing." — Saxoprint

Moby Dick at Neoteric Fine Art in Amagansett via Dan's Papers

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "Among a strong group, Paton Miller’s “Quequag,” is particularly powerful. Painted on linen that at a closer look almost seems rough like burlap, Quequag sits tall and proud, his body and face covered in scarification and his wrists cuffed in metal. There’s something Modernist and Gauguin-like about the treatment of the hands, the sloping, disappearing shoulder and the diagonal yellow line of the boat, dividing the background of the vast, dark blue unknown and the very brief foreground."—Stephanie de Troy, Dan's Papers

Beer with a Painter: Sarah Lutz via Hyperallergic

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "While on Cape Cod this summer, I visited the painter Sarah Lutz in her home high above the bay. We drank wine and talked about painting, then walked down the dune hillside to her studio, in a two-story cottage from which you can see the Edward Hopper house. Her set-up looks like a mix between a laboratory and a confectionary, laden with hundreds of paint tubes, pigments collected from trips to Paris, and kitchen tools that Lutz uses to paint. "— Jennifer Samet, Hyperallergic

Art Review: Dennis Leri – Putting More into Minimalism | Hamptons Art Hub

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "The exhibition of Dennis Leri’s work at Ashawagh Hall in Springs begs the question yet again of what constitutes true minimalist art. With the ascendance of minimalism in sculpture in the 1960s, the general assumption was always that reductive principles dictated that artists were required to follow distinctive criteria in order to be considered actual “minimalists.”—Eric Ernst, Hamptons Art Hub

McCall Wines wins Winery of the Year | North Fork wine, food, lodging, leisure—life on Long Island's top fork: Northforker.com

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "Cutchogue’s McCall Wines was named “Winery of the Year” at the 2013 New York Wine & Food Classic in Watkins Glen August 13.

“I’m thrilled,” owner Russ McCall said of earning the coveted distinction, which was presented by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. “Before this, we had never sent any wine to be judged before.” Mr. McCall attributed the win in part to his “large, mature vineyards” and to having an “incredibly gifted vineyard crew and vineyard manager.” The winery also won “Best Pinot Noir” for its 2010 Pinot Noir Reserve."—Rachel Young
