"This jewelry is cold forged. I work with silver and copper that has been repurposed from scrap and refuse. These materials are stardust, created at the time of the Big Bang, elements from the Periodic Table. They have been used for such ordinary things as electrical wire or flashing and too easily discarded. I have taken these materials and, through the making objects of beauty, restored them to a state, celebrating the power of their origin. There is an Islamic word, “baraka” which means the imbuing of an object through touch. The reforming, pounding, smoothing and burnishing of these materials is an act intended to regain some of the dignity of their stardust." —Raun Norquist, Designer
