McCall Wines: Wine Spectator lauds 3 Long Island wineries - Explore LI

by Ryan Salinetti

Mention: "Wine Spectator, the influential publication devoted to grapes and wine-related news, food and travel, praises three Long Island wineries in its current issue.

Bedell Cellars and McCall Wines, both in Cutchogue, and Wolffer Estate in Sagaponack are touted in the June 15 magazine, which recommends that visitors go to the East End for a taste.

The article by Ben O'Donnell, "Long Island's Rising Tide," notes, "In New York's coastal vineyard region, three wineries show the way."

Wine Spectator cited Wolffer's rose wine and new ciders; McCall's Bordeaux-style red blend, which is mainly merlot; and Bedell's popularization of local merlot, as well as the winery's artist series labels.

In December, Newsday listed its 12 favorite Long Island wines that are currently available. They included the 2010 McCall Pinot Noir;  two Wolffer wines, the 2010 Wolffer Fatalis Fatum red blend and winemaker Roman Roth's own label 2006 The Grapes of Roth Merlot; and two Bedell wines, the 2010 Musee red blend and 2012 Gallery white blend."—By Peter M.
