My hybrid style of painting comes from a courtship with photorealism and photography, fabric design, intensive art training in both commercial and fine art, pin strip car painting, East End (of Long Island, NY) icon painting, and all the creatures pollinating and procreating in my country backyard. These experiences inform my iconic imagery and style: I use high-color, glossy surfaces when depicting sturdy old windmills, telephone poles and broadcasting towers, dragonflies, bugs, birds, vines, passion flowers, and sumac. I like to present my subjects as icons that are surrounded by an environment of energy fields that come from radio and cell transmissions, smells and sounds. I want people to think about what is going on around them as I try to make the invisible visible.
