Space Design, Branding, Furniture Design— "We design furniture. We design spaces. We curate progressive retail."
Our design services (space design & branding) are highly stylized on both sides of the fence. We want to provide a visceral, transcendental experience through design and each client varies in their visions, tastes and needs. We make a point of going pretty deep with our clients on a personal level in order to respond to those differences. That's what makes our aesthetic consistent while allowing each space to be individually compelling. Our approach to a company's Mark, or Identity is much the same...It is cohesive, spiritually with an aesthetic, but not confined to it. We don't like to set rules.
Based in Kansas City, Missouri, UW offers a bare knuckled, hands-on facilitation towards “relevant” design. We place great emphasis on the client’s personality and voice. We believe in a controlled yet whimsical approach which encompasses all aspects of interior planning. Through custom fabrication and the sourcing of unique objects, Utilitarian Workshop focuses on creating highly customized commercial and residential interiors. We fundamentally welcome all challenges and aspire to inspire.
Our storefront space operates in a similar, non-traditional fashion. It is not a traditional "retail" store. It is a casual marketplace dedicated to the makers we work with. It is a venue for artists to develop a direct dialogue with the community consumer. It is predominantly locally driven..including some designers who are originally from the area, or have spent significant time here. It is a place for folks to acquaint themselves with our (UW) aesthetic and ideals. It also functions as our offices and a place for small gatherings. Some of our vendors include: KCCO, Early Jewelry, Sloan and Tommy, My Moon, Feather Spring Arts.
Expanded storefront hours for the spring season: Wednesday-Saturday 11am-7pm; Sunday 12-4pm
